What is xyz:GOLD?

xyz:GOLD is a gold perpetual deployed by trade[XYZ] on Hyperliquid through HIP-3, the standard that lets builders list their own perp markets on Hyperliquid's order book. It references XAU/USD, the spot price of one troy ounce of gold, and settles profit and loss in USDC.

A perpetual has no expiry. Instead of rolling contracts, a funding rate paid between longs and shorts keeps the perp price close to the reference price. You never take delivery of metal: it is price exposure, long or short.
